Suggested Hardware/Sizing/Growth and Scalability

Suggested Hardware

All of the hardware is the responsibility of the client. ANSHealth does not sell or support hardware. The client is also responsible for the RDBMS, drivers and any related license requirements. ePostRx runs on any platform that supports the JVM (Java Virtual Machine) such as Windows, Solaris, Linux etc. Currently most customers run on a Windows OS.

Description Suggested Requirement Comment
Hardware Minimum  Xeon CPU (3.8GHZ) -- 4GB of Ram -- RAID 5 HD (300GB).

Can also run VMs as additional application servers.
Application server - minimum 4GB RAM and 100GB hard drive.

Database server - Dependent upon sizing and growth. See below

Operating System Windows 2003/2008 Server 32/64 bit ePostRx runs on any platform that supports the JVM (Java Virtual Machine) such as Windows, Solaris, Linux etc.

It is recommended that Application Servers (AS) that manage numerous user sessions run on Windows 64bit Enterprise OS with JDK 1.5 (64Bit) JVM.

RDBMS MS-SQL 2005/2008 Enterprise 32/64 bit Client is responsible for JDBC drivers and any related licensing
User Interface(Browser) IE 7+ or Mozilla 3.57+ Browser interface required on desktop. Scanning personnel need Active X security enabled.
IVR VoiceTech version 5.0 User can develop interface to other IVR ssystems.
Fax Server Default interface is any fax server that accepts email and PDF image attachment. For more robust control including inbound OCR, ANSHealth recommends Open Source Hyla Fax which runs on Linux server. User can develop interface to other fax servers.
Client-side Printing For silent browser printing, requires version Adobe Acrobat Reader v8.0 Version 9.0+ doesn't support silent printing. Prompts user.
Rx Label Printers Zebra S4M (larger model)
Zebra TLP2844
Typical stock size is 2x3 inch or 2x4 inch. Can be customized.
Data Entry Label Printers Dymo label writer 400 turbo Can also use 8 1/2 by 11 laser printers for full page prints of data entry labels
Image Scanners Visioneer xp450 Any TWAIN compliant scanner
Barcode scanners MetroLogic supports Code39 and Code128 Keyboard wedge only! No serial port interface.
Java Virtual Machine (JVM) JDK1.5.17+(32 bit)  or JDK1.5.22 (64 Bit) Currently Sun JDK - Supplied by ANSHealth
Application server JBOSS version 4.01 Supplied by ANSHealth
Web Server Tomcat 5.0 Supplied by ANSHealth

Sizing/Growth and Scalability

For proper data sizing, clients should take into consideration:

1) How many prescriptions are being processed per day?
2) How many concurrent users will be on the system?

One of
ANSHealth's larger clients uses an IBM XSERIES_3650 that has eight-core Xeons and 8GB of RAM to run ePostRx™.  This system configuration currently handles 5,000 scripts per day with 100 simultaneous users with ease. The CPU usage on this system peaks at 10% and hovers at 2%-5% using 1.5GB of RAM.

This system has the capacity to handle more users and process more prescriptions, but let’s assume it has reached its capacity with the hardware configuration above.  ePostRx™ is an n-tier enterprise application designed to scale linearly by adding more servers.

To service 30,000 scripts/day and 600 simultaneous users would require 6 servers.  The bottleneck is not in ePostRx™, but in the database.  This database bottleneck can be solved by clustering and database replication. The size of our clients’ database grows at about 0.8 GB per day.
